Astoria Boracay Room Features

Email from Perry:

“Game na ako — you also gotta make sure the room is available.  Better call to reserve just before getting air booking then confirm after flight is booked.”

Actually, I could have done this last night, except I was so sleepy!

Was it AYL or RKL who was not hopeful last Sunday, that I had not booked my hotel room by now, even for a September expiration?  She thinks that I won’t get a room anymore.  I told her that Astoria Boracay is not yet open.  R said that since the hotel wants us bloggers to go, that we’ll probably get booked.  Besides, I thought that June to September is the non-peak season?

He commented about establishments wanting bloggers now.

Like Vay’s friend TSA, R thought that I got the GC because of Vay.  She didn’t even know that I was attending the cocktails!

Good, but the cheesecake was even better!

I sent out this email to, attaching photos of the front (my name, 3 days, 2 nights, standard room) and back (validity) of the GC:

“Dear Madam/Sir,

I have a GC for 3 days, two nights in a standard room at your hotel.  May I make a tentative reservation before we book our flight then confirm the reservation once our flight details are finalized?  My roommate is Ms. [Perry].

Photos of my GC are attached.

Please advise available dates in September.
I understand that your check-in time is 2 pm while the check-out time is 12 noon?

Is the de luxe room the same as the standard room?

Are all your rooms non-smoking?  Do standard rooms have a kitchenette and microwave oven?  How many pairs of slippers and toothcare sets are you providing us?  What about towels?

What are round trip transfers?

Would appreciate hearing from you.”

I’m so excited!

Room features listed in the Astoria Boracay Fact Sheet include internet access, ref, cable TV, safety deposit box, phone, voice mail, non-smoking, slippers, balcony/terrace, shampoo, conditioner, toothcare set, soap, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, hair dryer.

Perry, I guess we’ll just bring our own slippers, toothbrushes and toothpastes just in case one of us forgets to bring her set?

Round trip transfers are P 950 via Kalibo and P 700 via Caticlan.  Is this the bus going to and from the airport?  If so, that makes the Kalibo bus more expensive than the plane ride!

By the way, I hope that the staff of Astoria Boracay has been alerted that we bloggers will be taking photos of everything!  I don’t want a repeat of the camera pass incident at PETA.  An usher asked me, while I was taking photos of the play, whether I had a camera pass.  I told him that Leloy told us at the bloggers‘ briefing, that we could take photos.  I stopped taking photos.  During intermission, I spoke with the Usher Head (my invented title), who courteously asked me if I had asked for permission to take photos. I said that no, I did not ask for permission, that Leloy had told us that we could take photos.  He asked a marketing lady, who said that she remembered me.  She said that yes, as long as I don’t use a flash, which I didn’t.  After the intermission, the play was almost ending.  I took a photo or two na lang, versus about five more that I could have taken before the intermission if the usher had not stopped me.  The play turned out to be Juan Tamad, as the poster had declared, and Exie Abola had pointed out, not Boto the Musical, as had been scheduled in the brochure.  No one corrected me when I asked, in person, and over the phone, for a pass for Boto.  The play was about elections, and it was a musical.  So was this a renaming?

Anyway, I emailed Astoria Boracay to ask for photography rules.

Astoria GCs only for attendees

Since I started this blog two weeks ago, the most number views was yesterday, at 30, and the post with most number of views last week was Astoria gives away Bora GCs, with comments coming from my old (Carnation) and new (Astoria) blogger friends.

I had inadvertently omitted Mox Racoma in my name-dropping.  I met her also at the Carnation Food Tour in Batangas.  Thanks, Mox, for saying that I look like I’m in my 20s.  No thanks to Exie Abola for straightening her out.  But you’re still my friend, Exie, for being my number one “commentor”  (what’s the right term?) here since we met.

I asked Jehzlau if he had contacted Trish about the injanera GCs, and he emailed this to me:

“hahahaha.. si patricia tinanong ko. 😛 Sabi nya di daw bibigyan yung di pumunta.. 😛 Di ko alam contactn no. ni trish eh. hehe”

Actually, Jehz, Trish is Patricia Tan‘s nickname.  If I were an organizer, I would do the same thing, because I might end up preparing presentations, food, drinks, venue for guests who don’t show up even though they were part of the headcount.  I’m already giving away great prizes, all I ask is for people to confirm their attendance way in advance so I can prepare giveaways, etc. for them, and to show up when they say they’re going.

Kuya Rey asked Trish if he could bring his wife as it was their "twentieesh" anniversary.

Trish, I’ll meet up with my cousin later so he can teach me how to download video from my Canon to my Netbook.  In the meantime, would appreciate your sending materials that I can post here.  I’ll also try to make time to read your brochure.

Got this email from Trish, in reaction to Astoria gives away Bora GCs:

“Hi [yangiwei]. Thanks for the blog entry. I hope you don’t mind if I correct a few points. =)

For my Carnation Food Tour blogger friends who didn’t attend but confirmed their attendance, I heard from the PR Assistant that you can still get your GCs. – I was advised by the head of Events 100, the team who organized the event, that only those who attended will get their GCs. I will double check this information and will get back to you on this one.

I referred Michelle and Kuya Rey (or did she know him from the Carnation Food Tour?)  to Patricia “Trish” Tan of Megapublishing, whose events department handled the affair last night. – I know Sir Rey from the Carnation Food Trip. It was her daughter Phoebe who referred her dad to attend on her behalf. =)

I referred Hilda to Appetite Associate Editor Annie Z. Nisce for the Carnation Food Tour, but Hilda said that she knew Trish from the Blog Awardsbefore the Tour. – I am not the Trish Hilda was referring to. Apparently, we just happened to have the same name. =)

I hope you can also feature Astoria’s new logo and their vision behind it and also more about their newest venture which is Astoria Boracay. Thank you so much! Have a happy weekend!

Trish =)”
You’re welcome, and thanks for your detailed email, Trish.  Are you part of Events 100?  Thanks for the direction, too.  To be honest, I still don’t know how to transfer video from my Ixus to my Acer.
BTW, Trish, who made Astoria’s new logo?
I think that Hilda said that she signed up at the Megapublishing booth at the Blog Awards, so it might not have been you per se who she knew.
Aw, too bad about my blogger friends, if they don’t get the customized GCs!  Was planning to invite them to another event, where we could reserve our tickets online simultaneously!  But then, I would understand Astoria or Events 100‘s policy on showing up for the GCs, as it would set a precedent.

I was surprised to see that Astoria was booked on a Thursday night.

I took the Shaw-Gold Loop route. Parking on Escriva, after the driveway.

Thanks to Cathay Land, specially my ICA classmate and Ateneo batchmate Ms. Vivian Anne Yao “VAY” Siy-Ng, VP-Operations, for the 3-day, 2-night stay gift certificates for the bloggers who attended “Bloggers Night” last night.  For my Carnation Food Tour blogger friends who didn’t attend but confirmed their attendance, I heard from the PR Assistant that you can still get your GCs.  The injaneros 🙂 are Nuff Nang Awards finalist Jehzlau and Maki, who topped the Carnation food tour-Batangas google and yahoo searches, Dexter Matilla of the Inquirer (whose Fb status says that his HK flight was delayed), and Karlo LicudineBilib ako ke Jehz, he texted me a “woot” about the GCs, while I was still at Astoria, after I had said goodbye to my Ateneo classmate Hilda Kapauan-Abola (I learned from her last night that she was a Philippine  Blog Awards finalist, her husband Star columnist Exie Abola (from whom I learned the term “camwhoring“), Michelle Martinez of mrsmartinezravesandrants, her friend Cherry, my Carnation Food Tour kabarkada Kuya Rey Ramos and his wife Mrs. Ramos.  I referred Michelle and Kuya Rey (or did she know him from the Carnation Food Tour?)  to Patricia “Trish” Tan of Megapublishing, whose events department handled the affair last night.  I referred Hilda to Appetite Associate Editor Annie Z. Nisce for the Carnation Food Tour, but Hilda said that she knew Trish from the Blog Awards before the Tour.
