Kuang Chi Awarding Ceremony

The other awardee, Dr. John de Guzman, is from the Class of 1967.

I was Fb chatting with fmy irst Ateneo kabarkada Richard Chu today when I gave him this update:  Last March 11, I met Lawrence Dy and my Ateneo batchmates Bobby Go and Glen Ang, and Harvey and my badmintonmate Alfonso Keh and wife Dr. Ellen at Dr. Harvey Uy‘s Kuang Chi Awarding Ceremony.  I met Dr. Ellen in Harvey’s badminton group in Xavier.  She worked under Harvey at Asian Eye Institute.

Harvey said on his Fb wall that he got the award for exemplary good looks and wit.

Robert Sun introduced Harvey.

He was honored for his Boy Scouts work.

He talked about high school and said that it was the time when their batch was secretly following the Gabby-Sharon love team.

One of the best parts of the evening.

When Lawrence turned around, I told him and Bobby, who was beside me, ‘Ang baduy naman ng mga Xavierians!’  Rock Lobster naman ako noon.  To which Bobby went, ‘Si Robert lang.’

And even better.

Robert went on to say that a lot of people wanted to sit next to Harvey in the post-test room, then later said that it was a joke.  I doubt it. 🙂

I asked him why he was being given the award and he replied with a funny email.

Dear Fellow Ateneans,

Peace of Christ!

The Church gives us the Holy Season of Lent to enter more fully into the central mysteries of our Faith. This Holy Week we invite you to experience the celebration of the Paschal Triduum in a deeper and more meaningful way. The Office of University Development and Alumni Relations offer its annual Triduum Retreat for Alumni.

A retreat is essentially:
– a time off from the busy daily grind of life so that we can make time for ourselves and for God and experience the grace of peaceful rest
– an opportunity to remove ourselves from the clutter and noise of the world so that we can make space in our hearts for God and enter the silence and solitude where our deepest longings can be heard.

We seek to nurture the Ignatian Spirituality of discovering and responding to Christ’s call and finding God in all things.  Our retreat hopes to bring us to a deeper awareness of God’s presence in our lives and make us more attentive to His desire rather than our own.    “Man is created to praise, reverence and serve God our Lord, and by this means to save his soul… Our one desire and choice should be what is more conducive to the end for which we are created.”
