Parokya ni Edgar at two Ateneo Bonfires, a Gary V Valentine concert in 1986 or 87, a Jacqui Magno concert at the original Tavern on the Square, Jose Mari Chan at the Tres Palmas launch, Mike Regalado at Astoria Boracay, I don’t remember watching any OPM acts.

He rocked the house at the 2007 ICA Homecoming.

I’ve seen Carmen Patena at two private functions, but she sang Abba and other covers.  At the 2007 ICA homecoming, Pops Fernandez and Bloomfields did not sing OPMs.  I don’t remember what Christian Bautista sang.

I’ve seen a few cover bands, like Real Groove twice, 8 Track, and the ones at the defunct Bagaberde in Pasig, Bykes and Watering Hole.

Even though Real Groove is my favorite cover band, I don't know the singers' names!

So I want to try to catch the interesting OPM acts.  That I like.

Real Groove got Jen of Cups Cups Cups to want to burn a 70s CD!

I didn’t include Gary Granadas songs in Best Pinoy Songs, but they are the best.  His “Pag Nanalo ang Ginebra” brought us to tears when we sang it in Red Box, I think.  I became a fan in Jessica Zafra’s defunct show, Twisted, on 103.5.

Ugat may be a gathering of Pinoy greats, but I’ll only watch this with a balikbayan friend, as Noel Cabangon is the only other artist who I’m interested in, and only mildly.

Incidentally, among the non-Pinoy songs, ‘Sweet Disposition and ‘Digging Your Scene‘ are also my favorites. I first heard the Temper Trap song at KKC and AMY’s wedding.

Gary Valenciano concert at the Music Museum.

I think it was CYdA who said that Gary V and the Octomaneuvers make a great concert.

The last time I saw Gary Valenciano perform live was when he was just starting out, doing Michael Jackson.  I saw him perform twice, the first time at Tavern on the Square, as, would you believe, Jacqui Magno‘s front act, the second time at a La Salle event maybe at the Meralco Theater.  He sang the same song, and at the La Salle event, someone else sang the same song!

That cured me of Gary V.

RG danced and sang with Gary Valenciano at his concert more than a decade ago .  A friend told her, you look good up there.

She only realized that she had danced after someone told her!  She only remembered that she had sung. 🙂

I can’t imagine what new thing Gary can pull out of his hat this time, as the last song I heard him sing was  the unimpressive ‘Ayt.’

In the car, we danced to Gary V on 89.9 days before his concert more than ten years ago.

The one Gary Valenciano concert that I’d like to see is ‘By Request,’ where he sang songs requested by the audience.  I remember seeing part of it, where he got a request for a female song that was way off his style.

Ang kulit talaga ng Pinoy. 🙂
