San Juan to Makati

Ortigas Center Cities

What part of Ortigas Center is Quezon City?  Mandaluyong?  Pasig?

I want to know because I thought that Robinsons Galleria was in Quezon City.  But when I dropped off my friend  on the ADB Avenue side, I got a ticket from Pasig City.

I’ve gotten tickets from Guadalupe, Makati, Makati CBD, Camp Crame/Aguinaldo/EDSA, and the worst tubos system is Pasig’s.

Sentosa Singaporean Restaurant at Shangri-La Plaza, Ortigas Center.

I once had to line up on a plant box outside a window of an office near ULTRA.

My worst experience happened around January last year, when I forgot that I had driven the UVVRP car.

I went to the lot near Barrio Capitolyo, where Club Gymnastica and a rock-climbing place was.  It had been moved to some far, far away place.

We went through what looked like a junkyard to get to the venue.  No elevators like in Makati’s munisipyo where I got my PTR.

There were not enough chairs at the venue, so it was good that I had brought two plastic stools.

There was no queuing system.  I remember that there was a warning about people stealing your driver’s license so don’t put your license in the box.

A jeepney driver type urged me to queue my ticket but the lady in charge told me not to.  He went ahead and put his ticket in ahead of me.  When I yelled at him, he reasoned out that it was because I did not put in my ticket.  I said that I was told not to.

I have brought this stool to wait for my license, and watch a Blue Eagles Bonfire.

My cousin-in-law came running out and told the people in charge that their system stank.

I asked the backroom people if my license was indeed there, and got expedited, which meant that I waited only half a day.

I wish that Pasig would use Metrobank like Quezon City does, like when I was pulled over at EDSA between the Camps.  No need for office overhead, same amount of revenue.

I heard that San Juan, not Meralco, will take care of the post.

I had told Chips Villanueva that he would need to pay for depreciation.  Arpee Yson of Asia Insurance sent me this email:

Hi,

San Juan to Makati in Five Hours!

By this time, it had been raining cats and dogs for almost an hour.

Have you ever driven from San Juan to Makati via Bicutan?  I have.

Last Wednesday, November 10, I left San Juan before 2pm for Makati.  It rained what Mike Abasolo calls ‘elephants and dinosaursnon-stop for  about an hour from around 2 pm.  When I reached the flooded Pasong Tamo,  I followed a sedan in front of me.  I tried not to stay too close so I wouldn’t need to use the brakes.  I lost the car.

Amorsolo St. approaching Arnaiz.

Another sedan took its place.  When it turned around, so did I, even though it was nearer to go towards Waltermart than to turn back.  Who knows, the water away from Waltermart might be higher than when we passed it?  Still…

Mike wondered why Roces would flood when it was beside the Amorsolo creek.

When I saw a road to Makati Cinema Square, I immediately turned right to get out of Pasong Tamo Lake.  I thought twice about going to the Makati Cinema basement, as it could get flooded, but it was the only available parking place.  I thought of waiting out the flood while getting hot chocolate at McDo.

Mike said that I was near his Evekal office.

The parking basement was pitch black, save for the guards’ flashlights.  I got out of the parking basement.  I didn’t want to walk back to my car at night.  Who knows how long I was going to be holed up in Makati Cinema?

On the Amorsolo bridge, the cars were barely moving.  When I got to the intersection, only high cars were ‘swimming’ on Amorsolo Street on my left.  Save for one Honda sedan and a motorcycle.  The latter’s engine died immediately upon diving into the waters.

The reason why the vehicles were braving Amorsolo River–water reached the Honda’s windshield, which was worse than Chino Roces, was that Pasay Road looked even worse!

Cars were waiting around at the intersection of Amorsolo and Arnaiz.  I wanted to cross over to the other side.  Was that Lorenzo Village?  Two traffic aides scratched their heads and explained to their colleagues over radio, that the cars could not move.

It was around 4 pm.  I saw a car go up the Skyway.  I followed.

I saw about ten cars until I reached Bicutan, where I paid P 65.  I opted not to take the NAIA 3 exit because Bicutan seemed simple.  Just go back.

At Bicutan, there was a no u-turn sign so I parked at 7-11, asked the guard for directions back to Makati–he was no help, then turned left to Yellow Cab for squash soup.  The ladies’ room was wonderfully clean, way better than Makati Avenue‘s.

A delivery guy told me to make a left at the second overpass–it was actually the third, the second had a no left turn sign.

After hemming and hawing, I then stayed on the left side of the fork.   At what looked like a tollway booth, I asked for directions to Makati.  Go straight and keep right.

I stayed on the left lane, which was hardly moving then remembered the instructions.  When I moved to the rightmost lane, I saw the Cubao sign!  Looks like I’m on my way back to Makati!

I paid the Calamba rate because I couldn’t find my entry card–found it later.

When I got to Greenbelt Park, the cars were not moving again.  Deja vu! I sang to myself.

I u-turned to Rada, where I parked then walked to AIM Acceed.  I got to Maven Secrets class around 7:30 pm.

Man, what a time to bring a low-batt camera.

‘Ber in Greenhills and Eastwood

I paid P 40 for parking in front of BPI.

Since last month, my friends and I have been going to Eastwood because of:

1. the Appetite Restaurant Festival

Dinner with my friend's friends at MoMo!

2. dinner with my friend’s friends

3. my friend’s cousins’ retro class

4. We got P 4,000 worth of resto GCs from the Appetite Restaurant Festival.  Each.

The Owl Bones: Zhayne’s 20th!

Styled by my friend.

Every time we went, my friend was happy with how smooth the traffic was going to Eastwood, very unlike her previous experiences.  It didn’t hurt that there was a sale at Megamall and Robinson’s one weekend.

Have you ever been to a mall parking deadend?

Until last night, when she said that the ‘ber months were upon us.

The snail’s pace started on E. Rodriguez, Jr. We made the first U-turn then made the first right through the backway.  She went to the first parking entrance.  I preferred the roomier one, probably the third parking entrance.  Same building, but she said that the first one was a maze.  We even met a deadend.

My friend, her cousin and I parked at B2, to be near the escalator.

Upon exiting, she said that we should take the first Exit, the one that goes to Technoplaza, where Slimmers is, because it was a shorter route to the back, and that if we were to take Exit 2, that we should go back the front, where Citibank is.

Kim took this and the other Greenhills photos.

But Eastwood is nothing compared to Greenhills.  There was no parking today so I left our maid Kim at the entrance of V-Mall, where she put the printer on the floor outside BDO.

From BPI, took Connecticut, went back to Greenhills Shopping through McDo, went out Teriyaki Boy, left at Missouri, L at Annapolis.

I went around the whole Greenhills Shopping Center, even considered valet parking, which had a line.  I exited at Worldmusicroom Promenade.  I signaled right, hoping that a traffic aide would let me park at a cordoned off area on the street. A man outside BPI waved me over and said that he shares the P 40 parking fee with the guard.  I gave him P 50, as it seems that I had gotten the last parking space, and I wanted to have parking next time I go to Greenhills.

Why were there two traffic aides here and none near McDo?

Does UVVRP Apply to Tagaytay?

Rico of MMDA told me that the Number Coding Scheme will start at Coastal Road or Makati.

Discovery or Taal Vista?

Tagaytay City Philippines

EFY wants to know if UVVRP or the Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program is applicable in Tagaytay.  He plans to leave Tagaytay at 5 pm so that he’ll hit Metro Manila by 7 pm.  He plans to use the new car because of the distance, for safety.

Then 5 pm sounds early to me.  CYdA told me that coding should apply starting Muntinlupa.

Rico confirmed that if Alabang is the exit, that the entry into Number Coding zone is Makati.

Mmda

The MMDA trunkline numbers are 882-4151 to 77.  I couldn’t get through 51 to 54.  I got through 55, and spoke with a Rico, who confirmed that the September 9 update on the Metro Manila Development Authority site was the latest.

I had to say ‘UVRP‘ [sic] and ‘coding‘ a few times to Apple Ilano before she understood what I was saying.  She seemed to find my question amusing.  I guess I would, too, if I worked in Tagaytay.

C said, why implement a number coding scheme in Tagaytay when there’s not much traffic?  But isn’t it ma-trafik na ren?

Will text MMDA next time I have a question.

Thanks to my friend who took this photo on my request, because I was driving.

We still haven’t figured this out.  She said that arrows on the road would have been easier to decipher.

Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas closed tomorrow

Closed tomorrow, 5 am to 9 am

I saw this sign yesterday at Paseo de Roxas corner Ayala Avenue (Salcedo Village side, where Tower One is) and Ayala Avenue corner Makati Avenue: “Traffic Advisory: This Road Closed to Traffic: 10 July 2010 – 5 to 9 am.”    Why do signs like this need to say, “Please take alternative route?”  Without that part of the sign, will the motorist insist of still driving on the closed road?

At the end of the road is BPI on Ayala cor. Paseo de Roxas.

Is there a race?  Takbo.ph only lists a race in Cebu.

The red building on the right is PSBank.

I could not find an explanation either in the Makati portal or elsewhere.

All photos taken on April 29.

Mandaluyong’s Closed Roads

This is part of the route that passes through the closed road.

It’s been maybe weeks now that I’ve seen a sign warning motorists that Nueve de Pebrero, etc. will be closed on May 1.  The sign is positioned at the corner of the rotonda, at the street going towards Shaw.  It is not a place where you have time to stop and read the sign.  One foot later is, when the cars back up.  That would be a good place to put the sign, with some lighting.

This is the road that I suspect is closed to traffic today.

To contact the Mandaluyong website, you need to use Outlook, which I’d rather not use due to lack of intelligence.   Is it too much to ask for a

Of course, being a Saturday, there was no answer.

I tried local “0” and got no answer, too.  Of course.

I’ll try the National Mental Health route today.
